POC president confident of PHL medal haul in Paris Olympics

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino is confident that Team Philippines will perform better in the upcoming Paris Olympics compared to their historic performance in Tokyo.

He projected a medal haul equal to or surpassing the Tokyo Olympics, where the Philippines secured its first-ever gold medal through weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, along with two silvers and a bronze.

A total of 22 Filipino athletes are set to compete in Paris across various disciplines.

Tolentino noted that the athletes are in high spirits and have reached their peak training.

Most of the qualified athletes are already in France, with a few more expected to join this week.

Some athletes, including those in gymnastics and boxing, are allowed to enter the Athlete's Village as early as July 20, while others will enter later based on their competition schedule.

Boxers are training in Saarbrucken, Germany, while the rest are using facilities in Metz, France, which the POC arranged.

Filipino athletes now have adequate support, training, and motivation, with nutritionists and physical therapists providing assistance.
