PNP to secure COVID-19 vaccine transport, inoculation teams

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to escort COVID-19 vaccines and inoculation teams to prevent disruptions during transport and administration.

The PNP will coordinate with local government units (LGUs) to ensure vaccines reach their intended recipients, especially in far-flung areas.

DILG Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Bernardo Florece, Jr. emphasized the importance of securing the vaccines, stating they should be treated as 'precious as gold' items.

The national government targets to start COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline healthcare workers on February 15 with an initial batch of 117,000 doses of vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech.

The National Task Force COVID-19 aims to inoculate the first healthcare sector's 1.4 million individuals.
