PNP to dismantle private armed groups by March

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered police units nationwide to dismantle all identified private armed groups (PAGs) by March.

PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil mandated this decisive action as the police force is currently monitoring three active PAGs and five potential PAGs.

Active PAGs are located in Central Luzon, Central Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula, while potential PAGs are in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, and BARMM.

The urgency behind this directive stems from concerns that these groups could be mobilized to harass and intimidate candidates and voters during the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections.

PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo emphasized that failure by police offices to eradicate these PAGs within their jurisdiction could serve as grounds for their relief.
