The Philippine National Police (PNP) will implement stricter Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints nationwide after a fatal road rage incident in Antipolo City.
PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil announced that the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will also be deployed to assist in these checkpoints.
These Comelec checkpoints are in place due to the ongoing election gun ban, which remains in effect until June 11.
As of Wednesday, the PNP has arrested 2,056 individuals for violating the gun ban and confiscated 2,147 firearms.
Marbil proposed that individuals involved in gun-related offenses should be permanently disqualified from renewing their firearm licenses and registrations.
He also recommended the revocation of existing firearm licenses and registrations for those who have shown reckless behavior.
The PNP chief emphasized that gun ownership is a privilege that will be revoked for those who endanger others through its abuse.
