3-day transport strike begins
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported no untoward incidents or major disruptions during the three-day transport strike organized by the group Manibela.
Manibela initiated the strike on Tuesday to voice their opposition to the apprehension of jeepney drivers by the Department of Transportation's Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation.
Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that the strike did not significantly affect commuters.
Nartatez assured that the PNP is prepared to assist any citizens affected by the strike.
He also urged striking drivers and operators to conduct their activities peacefully and maintained that the police would keep a heightened presence during the protest.
