PNP refutes China's travel warning on crime

The Philippine National Police (PNP) stated that the country's crime situation is not deteriorating, countering a travel warning from the Chinese government.

PNP Public Information Office chief Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño cited a 16.5% decrease in focus crimes from January to August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, with incidents dropping from 26,969 to 22,519.

The Chinese Embassy in Manila had advised its citizens to exercise caution due to allegedly worsening public security targeting Chinese nationals.

Tuaño clarified that the 21 kidnapping incidents involving Chinese nationals this year were 'Chinese versus Chinese' incidents.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the Directorate for Intelligence to coordinate with the Chinese Embassy to understand the basis of their advisory.
