PNP records 75th COVID-19 death

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported its 75th COVID-19-related death with a 48-year-old Police Lieutenant in Southern Leyte.

The officer experienced flu-like symptoms on June 23, tested positive for COVID-19 on June 27, and died on June 30 due to severe pneumonia while awaiting transfer to a better equipped medical facility.

His family's attempts to transfer him to another hospital were unsuccessful as all facilities contacted were at full capacity.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar spoke with the deceased's chief and pledged assistance and benefits to the family.

As of Friday, the PNP has a total of 28,118 COVID-19 cases, with 156 new infections, 26,315 recoveries, and 1,728 active cases.

Approximately 18% of all PNP personnel have received a first vaccine dose, totaling 39,477, while 13,485 are fully vaccinated.
