PNP records 33 new COVID-19 cases, 1,563 recoveries

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported 33 new COVID-19 cases among its personnel as of Sunday, August 9, bringing the total to 2,492.

The agency also recorded 1,563 new recoveries, raising the total to 1,563, while the number of fatalities remained at 12.

As of Sunday, the PNP was monitoring 2,177 suspected and 842 probable COVID-19 cases.

More than 900 confirmed cases were from the National Capital Region (NCR) where personnel were deployed as front-liners, particularly in manning control points and conducting patrols.

The Central Visayas, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon police offices follow the NCR in the areas with the most number of COVID-19 cases among police officers.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año stated that police officers working directly with medical workers and deployed in COVID-19 isolation facilities are immediately subjected to rapid tests at the end of their duties.

He added that measures are being implemented to decrease the chances of police officers contracting the virus, including the use of personal protective equipment for those on duty in isolation facilities and those accompanying health workers in extracting COVID-19 patients.
