PNP 'reserving' detention areas for ECQ violators
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a total of 136,000 enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) violators nationwide.
PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa stated that detention areas are being reserved for ECQ violators as law enforcement operations are intensified.
Arrested violators could face prolonged detention due to the backlog of cases in courts.
Gamboa announced that warnings are no longer being given, and arrest and inquest procedures will be applied, especially in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.
In addition to ECQ violations, 731 individuals were arrested for hoarding and profiteering, and 9,418 public utility vehicles were apprehended for defying the mass transportation ban.
Special Action Force commandos have been deployed to assist local police units, with 116 deployed to Metro Manila areas experiencing high numbers of violations.
The PNP is urging local government units to pass ordinances imposing sanctions and penalties on quarantine violators.
