The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its operations against online scams, with Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordering a crackdown due to increased cybercriminal aggression ahead of the Christmas season.
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) has been directed to deploy 'holiday cyber patrols' to monitor and track phishing campaigns, fraudulent advertisements, and emerging online threats on social media and e-commerce platforms.
From January 1 to November 13, 2025, the PNP recorded 3,941 cases of online scams, with online selling fraud being the most prevalent with 1,630 reported cases, followed by investment or task scams with 589 cases.
The most common schemes include online shopping scams, fake delivery parcels, phishing links, and impersonation attempts, with some scammers sending unsolicited parcels requiring cash payment.
The PNP is also prioritizing entrapment operations against groups behind delivery scams, fake online sellers, phishing syndicates, and SIM or one-time password harvesting.
