PNP HPG confiscates over 17,000 illegal vehicle accessories

The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) has confiscated over 17,000 illegal vehicle accessories, including blinkers, sirens, and horns, as part of an intensified crackdown on unauthorized emergency devices.

The confiscated items, seized under Presidential Decree No. 96 which prohibits the use of loud signaling devices, include 17,426 blinkers, 875 sirens and horns, and 214 modified mufflers.

PNP HPG Director Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan stated that only marked vehicles of the police, military, National Bureau of Investigation, and ambulances are authorized to use blinkers and sirens.

Sellers of these prohibited accessories face escalating penalties, with a warning for the first offense, a fine for the second, and arrest with a penalty of six months imprisonment for the third offense.

In addition to the accessories crackdown, the HPG has also recovered nineteen stolen or illegally possessed vehicles nationwide.
