PNP forms task force to dismantle private armed groups

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has established a special task force to dismantle private armed groups (PAGs) operating across the country.

The task force will be led by PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo.

It will involve sub-group commanders from the five Area Police Commands (APCs): Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, Western Mindanao, and Eastern Mindanao.

These APCs were recently deactivated to streamline operations and eliminate overlapping functions, as confirmed by Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

The functions of the disbanded APCs are now covered by existing PNP regional offices.

Nartatez stated that the PNP is actively monitoring both existing and emerging armed groups nationwide.

The reactivation and integration of the APCs into this task force come after their deactivation in January.
