PNP finishes SONA security prep

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reached the final phase of security preparations for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo stated that their focus is on securing the areas surrounding the Batasang Pambansa Complex, as internal security is handled by the House Office of the Sergeant at Arms and the Presidential Security Group.

Fajardo assured the public that no serious security threats have been monitored in relation to the upcoming SONA.

The PNP is actively coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to monitor for potential threats against the Marcos administration.

A total of 22,000 police officers will be deployed for the SONA, with 6,000 specifically assigned to the vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

Security plans include rerouting traffic in areas where VIPs will pass and anticipating potential mass actions, especially those without permits.

Comprehensive security measures will be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue and the roads leading to it, as well as around the Batasan Complex.
