The Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed administrative and criminal complaints against nine police personnel involved in the Jolo, Sulu shooting incident last June.
These nine officers are respondents in murder and planting of evidence cases filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) concerning the deaths of four Philippine Army personnel.
PNP chief Police General Camilo Cascolan confirmed that charges were filed against the nine cops accused of direct participation in the killing of Major Marvin Indammog, Captain Irwin Managuelod, and agents Sergeant Eric Velasco and Corporal Abdal Asula on June 29.
Administrative complaints for gross neglect of duty have also been filed against the three superiors of the nine officers, including the director of the Sulu Provincial Police Office, the Jolo police chief, and the chief of the provincial drug enforcement unit.
Senator Risa Hontiveros welcomed the filing of administrative charges and renewed her call for the entire Jolo, Sulu police force to be temporarily relieved.
Hontiveros stated that this is important for authorities to have a free rein in conducting an impartial investigation into the incident.
