PNP expedites probe on Taal Lake items for missing sabungeros

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is expediting the forensic examination of items retrieved from Taal Lake, including those found in five sacks by the Philippine Coast Guard.

PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III directed the PNP crime laboratory in Calabarzon to hasten the transfer of these items to Camp Aguinaldo for examination.

The goal is to determine if the contents of the sacks are human remains and match them with the missing sabungeros (cockfighting aficionados).

The PNP has secured DNA samples from 12 relatives of the missing individuals.

A positive match between the DNA samples and any discovered remains would confirm the deaths of the 34 missing sabungeros.
