PNP denies website hack, cites DICT precautionary shutdown

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has denied claims that its official websites were hacked on November 5, following warnings from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) about potential cyberattacks.

A group named "HappyGoLuckyPH" alleged that at least 68 official PNP websites, including those of regional and provincial offices, were compromised.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño clarified that the DICT deliberately took the PNP websites offline as a precautionary measure, not due to a successful breach.

Tuaño stated that the 502 gateway errors experienced were a result of the DICT's preventative shutdown.

He also confirmed that while there were attempts to breach DICT servers, the agency's cybersecurity team successfully preempted these.

The PNP's official website was temporarily inaccessible but was restored by noon yesterday.
