PLDT, Globe restore services in typhoon-hit areas

PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom are working to restore full network services in areas severely affected by Typhoon Rolly.

The Bicol region, Camarines Sur, and Albay are experiencing disruptions in mobile communications primarily due to widespread power outages caused by the typhoon.

Globe reported that up to 90 percent of its wireless services for calls, SMS, and internet were down in the hardest-hit areas because of massive power failure.

PLDT also noted disruptions in services in areas such as Batangas and Marinduque, with debris hampering access to damaged locations and slowing down restoration efforts.

To assist affected individuals, both telcos have deployed free WiFi, free calling, and charging hubs in various provinces.

The National Telecommunications Commission has directed the telecommunication companies to expedite the repair and restoration of services in the affected areas.

Alongside repair work, PLDT and its foundations have also initiated relief efforts, distributing food packs to families impacted by the typhoon.
