PISTON to hold nationwide strike vs corruption on Sept 18

Transport group PISTON will hold a nationwide strike on Thursday, September 18, to protest alleged corruption, particularly concerning flood control projects.

The group is demanding accountability from officials and contractors accused of misusing public funds, stating that billions of pesos have been squandered on "ghost" and "substandard" flood control projects.

PISTON highlighted the significant taxes paid by jeepney drivers and mototaxi riders, lamenting that these funds are allegedly being stolen.

The transport group emphasized that "hearings and investigations are not enough" and that "someone should be held accountable" and jailed.

Malacañang has acknowledged the right to freedom of expression in response to the protests against irregularities in flood control projects.

Several other protests against corruption are scheduled for September 21, coinciding with the 53rd anniversary of the declaration of martial law.
