Phivolcs records eruption, earthquakes at Taal Volcano

Phivolcs recorded one phreatomagmatic eruption and six volcanic earthquakes, including five volcanic tremors, in Taal Volcano on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The phreatomagmatic eruption lasted up to 12 minutes, with a weak emission of plumes reaching up to 400 meters tall that drifted southeast.

Phivolcs noted long-term deflation of the Taal Caldera and short-term inflation of the southeastern flank of the volcano island.

Taal Volcano had an eruption on Thursday amidst the continuing search and retrieval operations at Taal Lake for missing cockfight enthusiasts.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that authorities will heed Phivolcs' advisory on whether it is safe to proceed with the search.
