Nationwide activities mark 39th EDSA People Power anniversary

Various events and activities are organized nationwide to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25.

The Marcos administration has designated the anniversary as a special working holiday, a continuation of its downplayed commemoration for the second year.

Schools and universities are suspending classes, organizing alternative learning days, or shifting to asynchronous learning to allow participation in commemorative activities.

This year's theme is "EDSA 39: Di ka nag-iisa," aiming to honor the historical event where Filipinos ousted the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos in 1986.

Several schools in Metro Manila, including Adamson University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila, held various activities such as solidarity walks, candle lighting ceremonies, commemorative masses, and academic discussions.

Adamson University president Fr. Daniel Franklin Pilario highlighted the significance of symbols like the color yellow as a form of resistance, particularly during Martial Law.

Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila also hosted an archival exhibit on the 1986 uprising and conducted a seminar on combating disinformation and preserving historical truth.

De La Salle Philippines will conduct an online webinar titled "EDSA@39: Its Relevance in the Digital Age and the 2025 Election" on February 25.
