Philippine Navy: Coral buildup in WPS likely natural

The Philippine Navy, through spokesperson Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, stated that the observed buildup of crushed corals in several West Philippine Sea features is likely a natural occurrence.

Trinidad clarified that no vessels were monitored conducting reclamation or dumping activities in Sabina Shoal, Hasa-Hasa Shoal, and Sandy Cay.

He noted that similar coral buildups have been reported in the past and that recent changes are most likely attributed to natural factors.

Tidal movements or weather disturbances are believed to be the cause of the piling up of crushed corals on shallow portions of the West Philippine Sea.
