PhilHealth encourages enrollment in Yaman ng Kalusugan Program

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is encouraging the public to register for its Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) to promote a more proactive approach to healthcare.

PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Edwin Mercado explained that YAKAP aims to shift the nation's healthcare perspective from reactive to proactive, with a focus on prevention and expanding primary care services.

YAKAP, an enhanced version of the previous Konsulta program, offers registered individuals access to primary care services including cancer screenings, checkups, and medications from designated YAKAP Clinics.

Dr. Mercado emphasized that primary care is PhilHealth's closest approach to universality, ensuring all Filipinos are covered.

PhilHealth Vice President Walter Bacareza confirmed that under the Universal Health Care Law, all Filipinos are automatically PhilHealth members and thus eligible for YAKAP.

The YAKAP program has already registered 36 million members nationwide, with PhilHealth allocating P15.3 billion for the program and P2.9 billion for medicines.
