National volleyball teams renamed Alas Pilipinas

The Philippine national volleyball teams, both men's and women's indoor and beach squads, will now be collectively known as Alas Pilipinas.

This new monicker was officially announced by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and its main sponsor Cignal on Wednesday.

PNVF president Ramon Suzara believes unifying the national teams under a single name is a timely move to rally support.

This marks the first time since 2015 that the national volleyball teams will have an official monicker.

Cignal has committed to providing extensive coverage of volleyball events across its various media platforms.

The newly-branded women's squad includes Premier Volleyball League (PVL) stars Eya Laure and Sisi Rondina, and Japan-based setter Jia de Guzman.

They will be competing in the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup for Women on May 22 to 29 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Other notable players in the roster are PVL aces Vanie Gandler, Dawn Catindig, Cherry Nunag, Dell Palomata, Fifi Sharma, Jen Nierva, and Faith Nisperos, alongside UAAP standouts Angel Canino, Julia Coronel, Thea Gagate, and Casiey Dongallo.

The PNVF is also hopeful that UAAP Finals stars Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon will join the team after their collegiate league championships.
