PH, Vietnam to elevate strategic partnership

The Philippines and Vietnam are looking to elevate their strategic partnership, with Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo meeting his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit.

Both ministers expressed anticipation for strengthening their strategic partnership by building upon existing achievements in defense, maritime cooperation, economic, and socio-cultural relations.

This partnership is significant amidst shifting geopolitical dynamics and ongoing disputes in the South China Sea.

Vietnam recently sent diplomatic notes to the Philippines and China protesting their activities in disputed waters and urging respect for its territorial claims.

These claims include the Spratly Islands, which Vietnam considers part of its territory.
