PH, US officials negotiate tariff removal

Philippine economic officials met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington D.C. on May 2 to negotiate the removal of a 17 percent reciprocal tariff on Philippine goods.

Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go described the meeting as "very productive" and "extremely well."

Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque stated that the negotiation is a process and believes their points were well received.

The 17 percent tariff imposed on the Philippines has been paused for 90 days, with a baseline 10% tariff remaining in place.

The goal is to bring tariffs back to pre-"Liberation Day" levels.

Trade Undersecretary Allan B. Gepty will lead further negotiations with the USTR.
