PH, UN launch advanced passenger info system for border security

The Philippines and the United Nations have launched an advanced information system called the Philippines' Advanced Passenger Information System, powered by UN GoTravel software, to enhance border security against transnational crime and terrorism.

This new system aims to strengthen border control, improve intelligence sharing, and enable a more proactive stance on national security.

Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez stated that the system will reduce the risk of threats entering the country through immigration controls, prevent travel document fraud, and enhance risk assessments.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Immigration, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Anti-Terrorism Council, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), and the Australian Government.

Christine Bradley, Chief of Section at UNOCT, highlighted that the GoTravel system is fully integrated with the International Criminal Police Organization's databases for nominals and stolen or lost travel documents.
