PH to start COVID-19 vaccination for minors aged 12-17 on Oct 15

The Philippines plans to vaccinate 12.7 million minors aged 12 to 17 against COVID-19, starting with those who have specific comorbidities.

The pilot vaccination of adolescents with comorbidities is set to begin on October 15, 2021, in Metro Manila.

The Department of Health (DOH) has identified 11 medical conditions that qualify children for the pilot vaccination.

These conditions include medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic/endocrine, cardiovascular disease, obesity, HIV infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory disease, renal disorders, and hepatobiliary.

Six hospitals in Metro Manila have been identified for the pilot vaccination.

The vaccination program will initially focus on 10% of the country's minors to monitor for adverse effects.

Parental consent will be required for the vaccination of minors.
