PH telcos urged to boost digital infra amid new competition law

Telecommunications companies in the Philippines are urged to enhance their digital infrastructure in anticipation of increased competition following the enactment of the Konektadong Pinoy law, also known as the Open Access in Data Transmission Act.

This law aims to reduce barriers for new market entrants and stimulate competition by simplifying licensing procedures.

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to promote fair competition and regulatory coordination in the data transmission industry.

This pact was forged pursuant to the Konektadong Pinoy Act, mandating the PCC and NTC to develop interagency cooperation mechanisms for effective enforcement.

PCC chairperson Michael Aguinaldo stated that this partnership is a crucial step toward building a competitive and inclusive data transmission landscape, safeguarding the sector from monopolization.

NTC Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez affirmed their commitment to fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory practices across the industry.
