PH signs labor pact with Romania, boosting OFW opportunities in Europe

The Philippines has established bilateral labor agreements with seven European countries, aiming to expand employment prospects for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that Romania is the latest European nation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philippines for the hiring of Filipino workers.

Other European countries that have existing labor agreements with the Philippines include the United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain.

The recent MOU with Romania, signed on June 7, is expected to enhance labor relations and provide better employment and social protection for OFWs in that country.

Currently, around 1,500 OFWs are employed in Romania, primarily in health, safety, and transportation sectors, representing about 20 percent of the country's total foreign workforce.
