PH records 60% weekly COVID-19 case jump

The Philippines saw a significant increase in COVID-19 cases from June 27 to July 3, with a total of 7,398 infections reported, marking a 60% rise in the daily average compared to the previous week.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that the daily average of new cases reached 1,057, the highest number of active COVID-19 infections since April 2022, totaling 10,094.

Of the current admissions, 497 are severe and critical cases, representing 8.4% of total COVID-19 admissions, with ICU bed occupancy at 15.3% and non-ICU beds at 19.9%.

The DOH also recorded 74 verified deaths from the past week, though none occurred between June 20 and July 3, with the majority of these deaths occurring in 2021 and early 2022.

Despite the rise in cases, over 70.7 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated, and more than 15.1 million have received their booster shots.
