The Philippines reported 4,933 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, August 22, 2020, bringing the total confirmed cases to 187,249.

Total recoveries increased to 114,921 with 439 new recoveries, and the death toll rose to 2,966 with 26 new fatalities.

Of the active cases, 91.5% have mild symptoms, 6.6% are asymptomatic, 0.8% are severe, and 1.1% are in critical condition.

The DOH noted that 13 deaths occurred in August, 10 in July, and one each in June, May, and April.

Most of the new fatalities were from NCR (17), followed by Region 3 (3), and Caraga (2).

The Health department clarified that 49 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and 19 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified.

The country's hospitals have a total bed capacity of 19,300 for COVID-19 patients, including 1,700 ICU beds.
