PH records 298 new COVID-19 recoveries, total cases now 26,420

The Philippines achieved a new record for single-day COVID-19 recoveries with 298 new patients overcoming the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 6,252.

This new record surpasses the previous high of 289 recoveries reported just three days prior.

Despite the encouraging recovery numbers, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 26,420 with 490 new infections reported.

The death toll from the disease also increased, reaching 1,098 with 10 new fatalities.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire attributed the surge in recoveries to the enhanced treatment capabilities of healthcare professionals and improvements in data reporting processes.

Vergeire explained that cleaned and updated data, including previously unreported recoveries from local government units, are now being incorporated into the official figures.

She anticipates that the number of reported recoveries will continue to increase in the coming days as this data refinement continues.
