POC to ask PBBM for funding for PH men's curling team

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) will request funding from President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for the country's men's curling team following their historic gold medal win at the Asian Winter Games.

This triumph marks the Philippines' first-ever gold medal in the Asian Winter Games and the first for a Southeast Asian country in the competition, defeating South Korea 5-3 in the final.

The team, composed of Marc and Enrico Pfister, Christian Haller, Allan Frei, and Benjo Delarmente, self-funded their trip to the games.

POC President Abraham Tolentino stated that the team needs financial support to sustain their journey, including a potential bid for the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Curling Pilipinas, formed four years ago and granted regular membership by the POC last year, has yet to receive official government funding.

The curlers will receive P2 million in incentives from the government under Republic Act 10699, which is expected to help offset their expenses.
