PH logs 4,226 new COVID-19 cases, total now 126,885

The Philippines logged 4,226 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, August 8, 2020, bringing the total to 126,885.

The National Capital Region recorded the highest number of new infections with 2,669 cases, followed by Laguna with 285, Cavite with 154, Cebu with 125, and Rizal with 118.

Of the total active cases, 91.4 percent are mild, 7.3 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are severe, and 0.6 percent are critical.

The DOH reported 287 new recoveries, increasing the recovery count to 67,117 after 95 duplicates were removed.

The country also registered 41 new fatalities, raising the total death toll to 2,209.

Half of the hospital beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients are occupied, with 55 percent of ICU beds and 49 percent of isolation beds in use nationwide.

More than 50 percent of the 4,400 ward beds are also occupied, and 70 percent of the 2,000 ventilators are available.
