PH, India bolster defense ties during INS Shakti visit

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año highlighted the strengthening of defense and diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India during a reception on board the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shakti in Manila.

The visit of INS Shakti and discussions between ranking officials reaffirmed commitments to boosting defense ties, focusing on enhancing bilateral naval cooperation through training exchanges, goodwill activities, and strengthened operational collaboration.

Discussions also recognized the value of ongoing personnel exchanges and common experiences in bilateral training programs and personnel development.

Año commended the Indian Navy's sailors and officers for their "valiance, dedication, and professionalism".

The defense cooperation between the Philippines and India is founded on shared democratic values and a dedication to international law, particularly in maintaining peace and order in the Indo-Pacific.

Año stated that the strategic partnership can become a formidable posture in resisting any unilateral attempts to undermine, weaken, or change generally accepted norms and principles of a rules-based international order, endangering regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

The visit coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
