PH honorary consul probes Filipinos affected by Alaska floods

The Philippine Honorary Consul in Alaska, Evelyn Abello, is working to determine if any Filipino citizens were affected by severe flooding in western Alaska caused by Typhoon Halong.

Abello is checking on the welfare and whereabouts of Filipinos in the inundated villages of Kipnuk and Kwigillingok.

She has formally requested information regarding the status of Filipino nationals impacted by the floodwaters and storm surges.

Hundreds of Filipino teachers, many on J-1 and H-1 visas, reside and work in Alaska.

Typhoon Halong caused significant storm surges, washing away entire homes in the affected villages.

Rescue crews, including the US Coast Guard and Alaska National Guard, have airlifted a total of 51 people from the typhoon-ravaged communities.
