PH gov't advises against travel to China due to coronavirus

The Philippine government has advised Filipinos against traveling to China due to the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo urged citizens to postpone trips to China, citing the risk of exposure to the virus and potential travel restrictions.

He emphasized that visiting China would mean exposing oneself to the virus and advised those intending to go to prioritize their health.

The outbreak, which originated in Wuhan, has infected over 4,000 people in China and caused more than 100 deaths.

Confirmed cases of the virus have also been reported in Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Nepal, and the United States.

While the Philippines has not reported any confirmed cases, 27 patients were under investigation.

The government is considering a travel ban to China and evaluating proposals to expand the suspension of visa-upon-arrival services for other foreign nationals.
