PH men's football team ousted from Asean Cup semis by Thailand

The Philippine men's national football team was eliminated from the Asean Mitsubishi Electric Cup after a 3-1 loss to Thailand in the second leg of their semifinal tie, resulting in a 4-3 aggregate defeat.

Suphanat Mueanta scored the decisive goal for Thailand in the 116th minute, securing their place in the finals via a header.

The Philippines' semifinal appearance was their first since 2018 and their greatest chance at reaching the final of the competition.

Thailand's first goal in the 37th minute by Peeradol Chamratsamee was controversial as replays suggested the ball was out of play, and VAR was not used.

Despite the loss, coach Albert Capellas expressed pride in the team's run, which reached the semifinals for the first time since 2018.

The team gained an advantage after a dramatic 2-1 first-leg win at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

A draw was needed to secure a seat in the two-legged final against Vietnam, which disposed Singapore in the other semis.
