PH Embassy discusses seafarer entry denials with US State, Homeland Security

The Philippine Embassy in Washington has engaged with the US Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security concerning Filipino seafarers being denied entry into US ports.

The embassy confirmed that these denials are in accordance with existing US laws, regulations, and policies.

Discussions are ongoing to ensure mandatory consular notifications are observed in such cases.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will handle the assistance of affected seafarers, particularly in terms of finding new employment.

In August, about 21 Filipino seafarers from a Carnival Cruise Line Ship were reportedly deported after US Customs and Border Protection alleged they had child pornography materials on their devices.
