PH COVID-19 positivity rate climbs to 8.8%

The COVID-19 positivity rate in the Philippines has risen to 8.8 percent as of April 20, according to independent analytics group OCTA Research.

This increase is based on 530 new cases reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on April 20, up from 382 cases the previous day.

OCTA fellow Guido David projected that new cases could reach between 500 and 600 on April 21.

The COVID positivity rate in Metro Manila is currently at 8.4 percent, with increases also noted in Cebu province.

Despite the rise, David stated that this is not considered a surge according to DOH metrics, although he noted that the rate is increasing.

The DOH's latest data indicates that there are now 7,340 active COVID-19 cases nationwide, with one new death reported in NCR.

The DOH has recently opened up the second booster shot for the general population to increase vaccination coverage across various community sectors.
