PH COVID-19 active cases exceed 123,000 with 17,000+ new infections

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has reached 123,251 after 17,231 new infections were reported on Friday, pushing the total cases to 1,807,800.

Of the active cases, 94.1% are mild, 3.2% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are severe, and 0.7% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries increased to 1,653,351, with 5,595 more patients recovering.

The death toll rose to 31,198 after 317 new fatalities.

The DOH removed 434 duplicate cases from the total case count.

Additionally, 1 previously recovered case was reclassified as active, and 221 previously recovered cases were reclassified as deaths following final validation.

The high case count may be due to a combination of factors, according to the DOH.

Nationwide, 72% of ICU beds and 53% of mechanical ventilators are currently in use.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), 73% of ICU beds and 61% of mechanical ventilators are occupied by patients.
