DOH records 3rd Omicron case in the country
The Philippines confirmed its third case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, a 36-year-old sea-based Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who arrived from Qatar on November 28 via Qatar Airways Flight QR 924.
He had a travel history in Egypt and his sample was collected on December 4, with results released on December 5 confirming he tested positive for COVID-19.
The OFW completed his isolation in Cebu and traveled back to his hometown in Cavite on December 17, where he is currently under home quarantine.
His whole genome sequencing result came out on December 18, confirming the Omicron variant, and he tested negative for COVID-19 on December 19.
He remains asymptomatic and is finishing his home quarantine.
Three close contacts have been identified and are under home quarantine, having tested negative for COVID-19.
The Department of Health (DOH) is verifying the health status of other passengers on the flight and coordinating for flight details.
