The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) has successfully launched its first nanosatellite, Perpetual Satellite-1, into space aboard a Japanese rocket as part of its 50th founding anniversary celebration.
The nanosatellite was launched on Saturday, October 26, from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan via the HTV-X1 unmanned cargo spacecraft, which is headed for the International Space Station.
Perpetual Satellite-1 is slated for deployment into low Earth orbit around January 19, 2026, to conduct a store-and-forward mission collecting Earth imaging data.
The collected data will be used for applications like marine traffic monitoring, greenhouse gas detection, and tsunami early warning through UPHSD's Project DAGAT.
The satellite will also test commercial GPS systems and a magnetometer for navigation, with data being sent back to UPHSD's ground station in Las Piñas.
UPHSD President Dr. Anthony Jose M. Tamayo expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting it as the institution's contribution to the advancement of science and technology in the Philippines.
