PDP-Laban will not sanction Sen. Koko Pimentel over quarantine protocol issue

The ruling party PDP-Laban will not sanction or investigate Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III for his alleged violation of COVID-19 quarantine protocols.

PDP-Laban Spokesman and Surigao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Johnny Pimentel stated that the party will not initiate a probe unless a member formally raises the issue.

Senator Pimentel, who is also the president of PDP-Laban, faced criticism after admitting to a positive COVID-19 test result shortly after accompanying his wife to the Makati Medical Center (MMC).

Critics alleged that the senator knowingly exposed hospital staff to the virus, as he was already aware of his positive status before his visit.

However, Rep. Pimentel defended Senator Pimentel, suggesting that the senator was unaware of his positive result until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, while his hospital visit occurred at 7 p.m.

The spokesman expressed belief in Senator Pimentel's explanation and stated that the party stands behind him, offering their full support.

Rep. Pimentel also mentioned that he is monitoring the health of other PDP-Laban members and has not received reports of other infections within the party.

He commented that the situation at MMC seemed to have been exaggerated.
