PDP-Laban nominates Duterte for VP, Go for president in 2022 polls

The national executive council of the ruling party PDP-Laban has nominated Senator Bong Go to run for president and President Rodrigo Duterte for vice president in the 2022 national elections.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, leading a faction of PDP-Laban, confirmed the nomination which was adopted during a Zoom meeting on August 4.

The official nomination of candidates will take place on September 8 during the party's national convention.

However, the PDP-Laban party is currently experiencing internal divisions, with two factions.

One faction, led by Cusi and Duterte, has ousted Senator Manny Pacquiao as party president and elected Cusi as his replacement, while Duterte remains party chairman.

The other faction, led by Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, maintains that Pacquiao is the party president and had previously unseated Cusi as vice chairman.
