PCSO to lose P3 billion due to COVID-19 gaming ops suspension

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is expected to lose approximately P3 billion due to the suspension of its gaming operations nationwide in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

PCSO General Manager Royina Marzan-Garma announced that Lotto, Digit Games, and Keno operations were suspended nationwide on March 17, while Small Town Lottery (STL) in Luzon was also halted.

Despite the projected revenue loss, Garma assured the public that the PCSO has sufficient funds for COVID-19 relief efforts.

The PCSO has already disbursed funds to Malasakit Centers in government hospitals, with daily allocations including P1 million for the Lung Center of the Philippines, P400,000 for Philippine Children's Medical Center, P1.5 million for Philippine General Hospital, and P500,000 for Philippine Heart Center.

Additional daily allocations of P400,000 each were provided to Rizal Medical Center and Taguig-Pateros District Hospital.

STL operations in Visayas and Mindanao are still ongoing, though the situation is being monitored.

The PCSO Board has also approved P1.4 billion to support the national government's fight against COVID-19.
