PCSO releases over P3 billion for COVID-19 response

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has released over P3 billion to support the government's efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

A significant portion of the funds, P2.2 billion, was remitted as dividends to the Department of Finance, adhering to Republic Act No. 7656 which mandates GOCCs to declare dividends.

Additional financial aid includes P420 million for PhilHealth to cover hospitalization costs of COVID-19 patients, and P447 million distributed among 82 government hospitals.

The Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine General Hospital, Rizal Medical Center, and Taguig Pateros District Hospital each received an additional daily fund allocation of P4.2 million.

Beyond financial contributions, PCSO also provided in-kind assistance such as food packs, alcohol, disinfecting solutions, and masks to certain units of the Philippine National Police in Manila and Davao.

PCSO General Manager Royonde Garma emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation to mitigate the pandemic's impact on health, social services, and the economy.

Despite a two-month revenue drought, Garma assured the public of PCSO's commitment to assist the government and the public, urging continuous support through playing PCSO games once the crisis subsides.
