Coast Guard alerts all ports to heighten measures against entry of coronavirus
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is intensifying its inspection of foreign vessels entering the country to prevent the entry of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
PCG Commandant Joel Garcia stated that port state control officers, in coordination with the Bureau of Quarantine, will conduct comprehensive inspections on all foreign vessels docking at major Philippine ports.
These enhanced measures aim to ensure the implementation of stricter screening and safety protocols against the virus, as directed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) had previously suspended all airline operations between Wuhan, China, and the Philippines.
The new coronavirus outbreak, which originated in Wuhan, has reportedly caused 26 deaths and infected 830 people globally.
