PCG ends search for 6 missing crew of sunken FB Genesis 2

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has officially ended its search and rescue operations for the six missing crew members of the fishing vessel FB Genesis 2, which sank off Davao Oriental on June 22.

The decision to terminate the search was made seven days after the incident, on June 29, 2023, by the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao.

While active search has stopped, the PCG will continue to alert passing vessels to watch out for any sightings of the missing crew.

One of the survivors said the six missing crew may be trapped inside the sunken vessel, estimated to be at a depth of 5,000 feet, approximately 182 miles from Baganga town.

The PCG clarified that the boat captain is among the six missing persons.

The FB Genesis 2 had 23 crew members onboard when it sank due to sudden changes in sea conditions.

Fourteen crew members were successfully rescued by passing fishermen, and three deceased crew members were recovered.

All rescued survivors and recovered cadavers were transported to General Santos City on June 25.
