PBBM reviews total online gambling ban proposal

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is currently reviewing proposals for a complete prohibition of online gambling within the Philippines, with Malacañang stating that the decision is being carefully considered for its potential economic and social ramifications.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the President is weighing the consequences, noting that banning licensed sites could inadvertently lead to an increase in illegal operations, which would negatively impact the economy.

This review follows previous discussions where Marcos Jr. expressed openness to the Department of Finance's suggestion of taxing the online gaming industry.

Senator Raffy Tulfo has joined other lawmakers in advocating for a total ban and hopes the President will address the issue during his upcoming State of the Nation Address on July 28.

Major online gambling operators, including Solaire Resort, Newport World Resorts, and Okada Manila, have asserted that their operations are regulated and are responsible extensions of their existing casino businesses.
